About

Who We Are

Duty of Care is a cross-cutting division of the International Rescue Committee’s Global People and Culture department.  We are a multidisciplinary team that supports the emotional and physical health of IRC employees through managing the organization’s staff counseling, psychosocial and health support services, overseeing its worksite health policies, and providing resilience-based education and training. We also offer guidance to IRC leaders and managers during and following critical incidents and disease outbreaks to ensure that best practices are utilized.

Our Vision

A thriving workforce empowered to meet the organization’s mission in a workplace that supports the physical and psychological resilience and wellbeing of staff

Our Mission

The mission of the Duty of Care team is to advise and empower IRC staff through prevention and early intervention support, as well as education and training materials, with equal emphasis on physical and mental health.  Our work is grounded on providing contextualized expert guidance to IRC leaders and managers to promote best practices and drive person-centered interventions. We seek to ensure well-being across the employee life cycle by supporting IRC staff and their families.

The Duty of Care team has undergone a significant expansion to ensure close support to all IRC country teams with regionally based DoC advisors. Members of the team come from the fields of psychology, nursing, social work, human resources, humanitarian aid, program design and management and evaluation. Together, we support the emotional and physical health of IRC employees through managing the organization’s staff counseling, psychosocial and health support services, overseeing its worksite health policies, and providing resilience-based education and training. We also offer guidance to IRC leaders and managers during and following critical incidents and disease outbreaks to ensure that best practices are utilized.
